I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it out of bed this morning.

I didn’t sleep that well and almost convinced myself that I was justified in going back to sleep.

After a couple minutes of trying to wake myself, I remembered the secret to getting “woke”. (No, this isn’t a political discussion.)

The answer is exercise.

I have been doing it all this week but in my hazy state I must have forgotten.

Grudgingly, I did a few reps on the bench press.

I did a few bicep curls.

Nothing too intense, just 25’s.

As I started to do some calf raises, it hit me.

I was fully awake.

My mind felt ready to put

If you’re ever feeling groggy, remember the secret.

Exercise.

Onto the rest of the day.

Today was billing day for a great client that pays well for my services, so the day started off well. I sent off the monthly reports and made a quick plan for this next coming month.

This might all sound extremely underwhelming, but herein lies the lesson for me:

Doing one thing for multiple reasons is like doing two things at once.

Killing two birds with one stone.

I wouldn’t mind losing a few pounds, but that wasn’t the sole purpose in lifting weights this morning.

It rejuvenated my body and mind, WHILE making me stronger.

I cooked a healthy breakfast for my wife this morning while listening to an informative podcast (brownie points with wifey, healthy breakfast, and learned something in the process).

I’ve found that the more good things we can fit into our day, the better.

I don’t remember the last time I listened to the radio in my car.

There’s always an educational podcast playing.

Every time.

I’m trying to find as many double purposes as I can.

That way I’m achieving more than one goal all the time.

And that’s just awesome.

Day 4:

  • Started LinkedIn prospecting- found 89 targeted connections within 20 miles of me
  • Spent some time crafting a “soft touch” email to connections asking for a quick casual  phone call to get to know them
    • During the conversation I will silently qualify them to see if they are a good fit. If so, I’ll send them a link to my main content piece which will soft sell them before the next call
    • Set to start cold outreach Monday with two auto follow-ups
  • Manually backed up all the sites I manage
  • Built and verified 2 local citations for a client
  • Went to Taco Bell and died on the couch a half hour later (bad move!)

What things do you like to pair together for double purpose?
